Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has come under fire with early-season struggles and a shoulder injury reported this week. Mayfield suffered a non-throwing shoulder injury in Week 2 against the Houston Texans and has been in harness ever since.

The 26-year-old signal collar is downplaying the severity of the injury. He vented his frustrations on a recent Instagram story after his performance against the Vikings.

“People forgot how I got here…nothing was given,” the quarterback wrote in a 14-7 win this week after completing 15-33 passes from 155 yards.

“Everything earned. Ups and downs. Each time came out stronger and better. God bless me with mental and physical strength that I not only succeeded in adversity, but also overcame trials that no one else could handle .

His wife followed suit on her own Instagram. He fired off several positions showing the quarterback’s support “through thick and thin.” She posted a meme with the caption “Breaking: Local hero explains how he might have made that throw on Sunday”. He expressed his dismay, saying, “My DM has 4,000 local heroes every weekend. Don’t be that guy. Thanks.”

Emily has proven to be a mental health advocate by posting inspirational quotes on Instagram and advising “people to cut some slack.” She reposted that it’s mental health awareness week and captioned it, “And guess what, this goes for everyone. Even the ones you don’t suspect. Be kind You don’t know what anyone is doing”.

Baker posted an excerpt from an article by ESPN’s Jacob Trotter, which talks about a “rigorous recommendation for eating smarter and exercising harder.” Baker credits this position to his nutritionist, his brother and loving wife. She humbly reposted it saying “Mostly you are. We help where we can.”

While Baker’s numbers are down this year, Cleveland is up 3-1 after losing to Kansas City since the start of the season.
