Hey, Mr. Errnstein! and Eddie. And Mrs. Bryce too.
The upcoming Broadway revival of “Funny Girl” announced more casting on Wednesday.
Joining Benny Feldstein as Fanny Brice, the storied role made famous by Barbra Streisand, Ramin Karimloo as hotshot gambler Nick Arnstein, Jared Grimes as dancer pal Eddie, and Jane Lynch as Fanny’s mom Rosie.
“Funny Girl” begins performances at the August Wilson Theater on March 26, 2022, and the opening night is April 24.
The revival is the second Broadway outing for Lynch, best known for TV’s “Glee” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, after playing Miss Hannigan in “Annie” in 2013.
Karimloo has the distinction of playing the Phantom in both Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and its unfortunate sequel, “Love Never Dies” in London. Stateside he has been seen as the villain in “Anastasia” and as Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables”.
Meanwhile, Grimes has trampled boards relatively recently—in the Tony-winning revival of “A Solider Play” last season.
“Funny Girl”, which features the classic tune “Don’t Rain on My Parade” by composer Joule Stine (“Gypsy”) and a spruced-up book by Harvey Fierstein, has not been seen on Broadway as it is closed at the Winter Garden Theatre. 54 years ago.
